The Hidden Cost of One-Size-Fits-All Zone Management

Our previous analysis showed AgriVaR’s advantage at the field level. But the real value of precision agriculture comes from managing each zone individually. Traditional CEC-based soil test zones often miss important details, leading to costly errors that add up across your field.

The Zone-Level Analysis

- Field Size: 160 acres with 8,769 measurement points

- Management: Divided into 5 zones for variable-rate applications

- Test Method: Comparing 2022 CEC zone averages vs. 2024 actual yields

AgriVaR Zone-by-Zone Yield Bias Reduction & Estimated Savings

- Zone 1: Reduced bias from +3.8 to -0.8 bu/acre — a 3.0 bu/acre improvement saving $858

- Zone 2: Improved bias from -3.7 to -0.1 bu/acre — a 3.6 bu/acre improvement saving $446

- Zone 3: Lowered bias from +6.8 to +4.6 bu/acre — a 2.2 bu/acre improvement saving $1,174

- Zone 4: Slight bias improvement from +4.0 to +3.5 bu/acre — a 0.5 bu/acre improvement saving $221

- Zone 5: Mixed results, bias shifted from +9.6 to -11.2 bu/acre — saving $456

Total Impact: By managing zones precisely, bias-related input costs dropped from $5,312 to $2,157 — an estimated net savings of $3,155, or $19 per acre.

Why Zone-Level Yield Precision Matters

Zone-level insights uncover costly input mistakes hidden by field-level averages. Precision agriculture is more than data — it’s about smarter decisions tailored to every part of your field. Systematic bias in each zone costs more than being roughly right across the whole field.

This case study shows how targeted zone management drives smarter input use and maximizes profitability.

Results are from a single field case study conducted in 2024. Individual results will vary based on specific field conditions, management practices, and environmental factors. This analysis represents historical performance and is not a guarantee of future results.
